The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a national organization of more than 35,000 registered nurses and other healthcare professionals dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching, research and education in the field of oncology. A prime goal of ONS is to provide a network of peer support and exchange for oncology nurses. To do so, ONS introduced a formal structure of Special Interest Groups (SIG) to facilitate networking of ONS members in an identified subspecialty area. The Survivorship SIG was established in 1991. In 2002, the Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship SIGs merged to form the Survivorship, Quality of Li8fe & Rehabilitation SIG. Activities
The Survivorship, Quality of Life & Rehabilitation SIG has chosen to fulfill their mission and goals through activities such as preparing topic submissions for presentation at ONS educational events. They are also working to strengthen relationships with the ONS Health Policy Associate and other cancer-related organizations to promote legislative issues pertaining to the survivor population. The SIG is collaborating with national cancer patient/survivor organizations as directed by the ONS Board of Directors to assist with survivorship-related product/program development, and to act as a liaison to the consumer population. The SIG also responds to survivorship related requests from individuals, organizations and institutions when applicable to oncology nursing. The group will continue to exchange information through the publication of the newsletter.
